Kim Hong-yeol (Hong10), a member of the Breaking team at Dobong District Office (Mayor Oh Eon-seok), won the silver medal in breaking, which was included as an official event for the first time at the Hangzhou Asian Games, becoming the inaugural medalist.
On the 7th, Kim Hong-yeol lost to Shigekix (Nakarai Shigeyuki) in the men's final held at the Archery Canal Sports Park Gymnasium in Hangzhou, China, with a round score of 1-2 (4-5, 3-6, 6-3), earning the silver medal. Although he did not reach the gold medal, he was the only Korean athlete to win a medal in breaking, which was held as an official event for the first time at this competition, securing qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympic qualifiers.
Kim Hong-yeol has been competing internationally since 2001 at the age of 16 and has maintained top-level skills, being regarded as a living legend in the breaking world. He was the first Korean to win the 'Red Bull BC One World Final,' considered the most prestigious competition in the world, twice (in 2006 and 2013).
Having rewritten the history of Korean breaking multiple times, Kim Hong-yeol said, "I am very disappointed as I was just one vote away from the gold medal," adding, "I will continue to challenge myself with an eye on the 2024 Paris Olympics to be held in France next summer."
Lee Woo-sung, coach of the Dobong District Office Breaking team, said, "I am always grateful for Dobong District's active support and encouragement, and I will continue to make relentless efforts to achieve good results."
In response, Oh Eon-seok, mayor of Dobong District Office, said, "I would like to express my gratitude to Kim Hong-yeol, who brought such joyful news after the founding of the breaking team, as well as to the Dobong District Office Breaking team," adding, "We will continue to firmly support the Dobong District Office Breaking team so that they can fully demonstrate their capabilities."
The Dobong District Office Breaking team is the first corporate team established nationwide on September 1. The inaugural coach is Lee Woo-sung, who currently serves as the chairman of the Special Breaking Committee of the Korea DanceSport Federation. The team consists of national representatives at the Hangzhou Asian Games, Kim Hong-yeol (Hong10) and Kwon Sung-hee (Starry), along with top domestic technicians and movers Oh Cheol-je (Fe), Park Won-bin (Jazzbear), Choi Jung-woo (Milie), and Korea's next-generation number one B-boy Eom Hye-sung (B1).
