On the 6th, the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency held a seminar titled 'Amendment of the Stalking Punishment Act and Strategies for Responding to Stalking Crimes.'
The seminar was organized to explore response strategies to stalking crimes, which have recently led to violent crimes, as well as implications and alternatives following the amendment of the Stalking Punishment Act.
About 100 people attended, including Im Yong-hwan, Chief of the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency; Kim Tae-bong, Chairman of the Gwangju Autonomous Police Committee; Shin Su-jeong, member of the Gwangju City Council; Cho Eun-kyung, professor at Dongguk University; and Bae Seong-jin, head of the stalking investigation division at the National Investigation Headquarters.
Cho Je-seong, associate researcher at the Korea Institute of Criminology and Justice Policy and the presenter, addressed the need to utilize risk assessment tools for recidivism as an institutional supplement following the amendment of the Stalking Punishment Act.
Following this, Jeong Seung-ah, professor at Chosun University, presented on the ‘Expert Participation Correction Counseling Program’ being promoted by the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency as a judicial treatment measure for stalking offenders.
