Crown Haitai Confectionery Hosts Performance of 'Sujecheon,' the Finest Traditional Music Piece

The 18th Changsinje (創新祭) Held at Sejong Center for the Performing Arts

Crown Haitai Confectionery announced on the 5th that it will hold the "18th Changsinje (創新祭)" performance at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts Grand Theater for three days from the 13th to the 15th.

Changsinje is the largest traditional music performance hosted by a private company in Korea, themed "Beopgochangsin (法古創新)," which means "creating newness based on the old." This year’s Changsinje will feature a newly arranged version of "Sujecheon (壽齊天)," which was first introduced last year. It is a grand-scale performance that portrays the beginning and development of Sujecheon, considered the pinnacle of Korean traditional music, as a millennium historical story.

The performance, consisting of three parts, begins with the Baekje-era song "Jeongeupsa," the origin of Sujecheon, presented as a play centered on Samulnori. The second part recreates the original form of Sujecheon through historical texts such as the Goryeosa, Daeeakhubo, and Akhak Gwebeom, showcasing splendid court music and court dance. The third part is a large-scale gugak orchestral performance that conveys the emotion of Sujecheon, wishing for eternal life like the sky.

Meanwhile, Crown Haitai Confectionery will give all visitors to Changsinje a free academic research book titled Sujecheon Research. This specialized book, newly published by compiling academic papers studied so far, aims to allow more people to see and enjoy the beauty of Sujecheon.
