Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, visited the training grounds of the Jeonnam athletes on the last day of the Chuseok holiday, the 3rd, to encourage the team as they sweat it out in training to achieve 3rd place overall at the 104th National Sports Festival.
On that day, Governor Kim visited the Wushu team affiliated with the Jeonnam Provincial Office training in Boseong, 14 teams from Jeonnam Sports High School, and the hockey team from Mokpo City Hall, consecutively encouraging the athletes' hard work and cheering them on to perform well at the National Sports Festival held in Jeonnam for the first time in 15 years.
Governor Kim said, “As you represent Jeonnam, please take pride and do your best in the remaining training period to compete without regrets,” adding, “I hope you not only achieve good results at this National Sports Festival but also boldly advance to the world stage to become the pride of Jeonnam and heroes of the Republic of Korea.”
Meanwhile, in August, Governor Kim instructed to increase the medal rewards for the Jeonnam athletes by 100% to boost their morale for the National Sports Festival.
Accordingly, starting this year, athletes will receive increased rewards: 1,000,000 KRW for gold medals (up from 500,000 KRW), 600,000 KRW for silver medals (up from 300,000 KRW), and 400,000 KRW for bronze medals (up from 200,000 KRW).
The 104th National Sports Festival will be held over seven days from October 13 at more than 70 venues across the province, including the Mokpo Sports Complex, featuring 49 events. A total of 1,924 participants, including athletes and officials, will take part from Jeonnam.
