Dropping the 'iPhone 15 Pro' and 'Galaxy S23 Ultra'... Surprising Results

iPhone 15 Pro Durability Controversy
Apple "Preparing SW Update" for Overheating

Apple's recently released iPhone 15 Pro has been receiving harsh criticism for its weak durability. Apple emphasized that the iPhone 15 Pro series uses a lightweight and sturdy 'titanium' material, but in drop tests, the rear glass easily shattered, showing poor shock absorption and sparking ongoing durability controversies.

Recently, the YouTube channel 'Gupta Information Systems,' which has 1.56 million subscribers, uploaded a video testing the durability of the iPhone 15 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra by dropping them onto the ground.

The YouTuber conducted the test by dropping the smartphones without cases from a person's height onto concrete. As a result, the iPhone 15 Pro Max's rear glass shattered, while the Galaxy S23 Ultra remained intact without a single scratch.

Additionally, in a test conducted from the top of stairs, the Galaxy S23 Ultra showed no damage. However, the iPhone 15 Pro Max's rear glass was completely cracked and broken.

Apple had emphasized that the iPhone 15 Pro series uses a strong and lightweight 'titanium' material. Titanium is an alloy used in spacecraft manufacturing. It has the advantage of being harder than steel while being lighter in weight. Apple stated, "The titanium alloy used in spacecraft boasts the highest specific strength compared to any metal and is lightweight."

However, the titanium-made iPhone 15 Pro Max has been breaking more easily than the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, leading to continued durability criticisms. The Galaxy S23 Ultra features an aluminum frame on the front and back and Gorilla Glass, which is highly resistant to impact.

Durability and Overheating Controversies Surround iPhone 15 Pro Series

This is not the first time the iPhone 15 Pro series has faced durability controversies. Earlier, on the 22nd of last month, IT YouTuber 'AppleTrack' also uploaded a drop test comparison video between the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro. The result was a decisive loss for the iPhone 15 Pro.

When AppleTrack dropped the iPhone 15 Pro from about 6.1 meters (20 feet), the main body and camera lens completely separated, rendering the device unusable. The iPhone 14 Pro had cracks on the screen but remained functional without significant issues.

There was also an overheating controversy. Chinese IT creator 'Geekerwan' reported that when running a high-spec game on the iPhone 15 Pro for over 30 minutes, the device temperature rose to a maximum of 48.1 degrees Celsius.

Typically, running high-spec games on smartphones for extended periods causes significant heat. However, the industry considers a temperature of 48 degrees Celsius to be serious. Regarding this, IT media Wccftech pointed out, "Apple may not have implemented a powerful cooling solution in the 'iPhone 15 Pro Max.'"

In response, Apple stated on the 30th of last month, "Due to bugs in the latest iOS 17 software and some third-party apps overloading the system, it may take longer to set up the device and restore user data, causing the device to become hot during the first few days." iOS 17 is the latest operating system pre-installed on the iPhone 15 series.

They added, "This will be resolved in a software update," and "We are working with app developers whose apps cause iPhone overheating and are in the process of resolving the issue."
