The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 3rd that it will create the entire Sempio Remicon site (22,770㎡) in collaboration with Seongdong-gu and SP Seongsu PFV as a cultural and leisure space, holding an opening ceremony on the 5th.

This site was used as a Sempio Remicon factory for a long time. After the demolition of the ready-mixed concrete factory, fences were installed, isolating it from the surroundings. However, after Seoul City signed an agreement with Seongdong-gu and SP Seongsu PFV on May 31, the site was developed into a performance venue (8,500㎡), a lawn plaza (4,880㎡), and a public parking lot (10,380㎡, 239 spaces).

The performance venue can be used in various ways, including indoor and outdoor stages, and the parking lot was designed as a public parking area available not only to visitors of nearby places such as Seoul Forest and Eungbongsan but also to citizens. The lawn planting in the lawn plaza, which will serve as a resting place for citizens, is scheduled to be completed by the end of November, considering the performance schedule.

The cultural and leisure space is planned to be temporarily open for about two years until the development of the Sempio site begins. SP Seongsu PFV will establish the infrastructure for cultural performance facilities and provide it to Seongdong-gu, while Seoul City and Seongdong-gu have provided administrative support for smooth development. The use permits for the cultural performance space and the parking lot will be operated by Seongdong-gu.

At 1:30 PM on the 5th, an opening ceremony will be held to inform citizens about the temporary opening. Starting with an NCT127 performance on the 6th, Peaches will perform on the 7th and 8th.

Meanwhile, the main project for the Sempio site is currently conducting an international design competition as a pilot project for the ‘Architectural Innovation-type Prior Negotiation’ under urban architectural design innovation. After selecting a preferred negotiation candidate this year, prior negotiations will proceed.

Seoul City stated that even in the main development, the site will be designed as an urban space that harmonizes with the surrounding natural environment such as the Seongsu area, Jungnangcheon Stream, Han River, Eungbongsan, and Seoul Forest, and functionally and physically connects with Seoul’s industry, culture, and transportation.

Hong Seon-gi, Director of Future Space Planning at Seoul City, said, "We hope that the temporarily opened Sempio site will become a space that harmonizes with nature and enhances the culture of Seongsu and the quality of life for citizens."
