17 Content Companies Offering Job Opportunities
The ‘2023 Daegu Contents Fair (DCCF)’, where you can see local content industries such as games, webtoons, and characters at a glance, will be held at EXCO for two days starting from the 6th.
Hosted by Daegu City and organized by EXCO Co., Ltd., this exhibition is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Korea Creative Content Agency, and the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education. The Daegu Digital Innovation Promotion Agency and Daegu Creative Economy Innovation Center are participating as cooperating organizations, enhancing the professionalism of the comprehensive content exhibition.
The 2023 Daegu Contents Fair (DCCF) will be operated with various programs covering all areas of the content industry under the theme ‘Play Contents, Enjoy Daegu,’ including game shows, webtoon festivals, content exhibitions and experiences, creator demonstrations, conferences, job fairs, and corporate investment consultations.
In the game sector, ‘Eternal Return 1.0,’ which received great response at the last Daegu Contents Fair, is known to participate again this year. Nimble Neuron Co., Ltd. (CEO Kim Seunghoo) introduced that ‘Eternal Return 1.0’ has been receiving favorable reviews recently with a sharp upward trend since its official service launch in July this year. Various side events such as coupon giveaways and flea markets have been prepared for this event.
Daegu’s representative game companies, Raon Entertainment Co., Ltd. (CEO Park Jaesook) and Angel Games Co., Ltd. (CEO Park Jihoon), will also operate independent booths, expected to provide diverse attractions and entertainment for visitors to the event.
Raon Entertainment Co., Ltd. will participate in this event with ‘Tales Runner’ and ‘Ghost War.’ ‘Tales Runner’ is a PC online racing game that has been loved for 18 years since its service began in 2005, and visitors to the event can directly experience the ‘Tales Runner’ game.
The mobile game ‘Ghost War’ will also have game demonstrations. Based on the animation ‘Shinbi Apartment,’ ‘Ghost War’ is loved by various age groups with its unique and cute characters in the game. Raon Entertainment plans to provide limited edition goods as an event, expecting many visitors to the event.
Angel Games Co., Ltd. announced that it will showcase ‘Tower of God M: The Great Journey’ and the new title under development, ‘Wonderous: Eternal World,’ at the ‘2023 Daegu Contents Fair (DCCF),’ attracting industry attention.
The RPG game ‘Tower of God M,’ based on the webtoon, is scheduled for a large-scale update including the appearance of new characters, and ‘Wonderous: Eternal World’ recently completed a closed beta test in North America and is conducting the final test ahead of its global service this winter. Booth visitors will have the opportunity to try the new game, and various events such as giveaways of goods during the demonstration will be held.
Also, fueled by the explosive popularity of K-content, the rapidly growing webtoon sector has organized various programs that both industry stakeholders and the general public can participate in, including corporate exhibition booths, expert conferences, and lectures by famous webtoon artists.
On the opening day, the 6th, artist Kim Gyusam will give a lecture titled ‘The Infinite Growth Story of Webtoons Expanding Globally.’ Kim Gyusam is a popular webtoon artist known for many representative works such as ‘Jungle High School,’ ‘Max Level Girl Oora,’ and ‘Hive.’ The webtoon ‘Cheap Cheonlima Mart’ was adapted into a drama of the same name, demonstrating the expansion potential of webtoon IP.
His recent work ‘Vigilante’ is also being produced as a drama and will soon be released on a global OTT platform. It is expected to be a good example of K-webtoons entering the global market.
On the 7th, MindC, the author of the webtoon ‘Will You Marry Me,’ and Park Kyungwon, the author of the web novel ‘Superstar Cheondae-ri,’ will appear as speakers to talk about the creative process of webtoons and web novels, respectively, and about web novels and webtoons as original IP (Intellectual Property right).
Meanwhile, Studio Nini Co., Ltd. (CEO Bae Hyunpil), the production company of the popular webtoon ‘Please Support My Revenge,’ which ranked first among new releases on the Japanese webtoon and web novel platform Piccoma in July, will also participate in this event, showcasing the competitiveness of Daegu’s webtoon companies. They plan to establish a foothold for business expansion through exchanges with domestic and international content industry stakeholders visiting the 2023 Daegu Contents Fair (DCCF).
The Daegu Webtoon Campus, a hub institution for webtoon culture, will support exhibitions of local artists’ works and business meetings, and will also hold an awards ceremony for outstanding works selected through the ‘3rd Daegu Webtoon Contest.’
During the event, an expert conference will be held on topics such as ‘Content IP Business Expansion Strategies into Various Fields through Case Analysis of Pororo IP Expansion (final day by Iconix CEO)’ and ‘Successful Strategies of Content IP Companies Attracting Investors (Choi Kyunghee, Director of Soopung Ventures).’ A separate corporate investment consultation meeting will also be prepared, providing active opportunities for exchange among Daegu’s content industry stakeholders.
In the one-person media sector, famous YouTubers ‘Gayo-i’ and ‘Nitmolkash, Kim Moi, Taisup’ will hold a talk concert and fan meeting. In addition, various events such as a cosplay festival, character parade, and board game experiences are prepared.
Furthermore, a job fair for young talents will be held. The job fair, jointly promoted by the Daegu Global Game Center and Daegu Creative Economy Innovation Center, will involve 12 game companies and 5 content companies, providing special lectures on employment and individual consulting for job seekers.
There are also various experience programs for general students and citizens. J-Sha Co., Ltd. (CEOs Shim Youngmin and Sung Eunshil), famous for the character ‘Mr. Donothing,’ will set up a photo zone to offer healing to visitors, and the Daegu Video Media Center plans to present the unique charm of independent films through zombie movie and special makeup experience events.
Jo Kyungseon, Director of the Daegu City Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, said, “We hope that the content industry can grow into a core industry of the region through the Daegu Contents Fair (DCCF).” He added, “We will continue to support excellent local companies to grow into global companies through policies fostering convergence-type content with new technologies and new industries such as ABB (AI, Big Data, Blockchain) and the metaverse.”
