According to foreign media including the BBC, around 9:30 a.m. that day, a vehicle loaded with explosives attempted an attack near the Turkish Parliament and the Ministry of Interior.

During the incident, one suspect died by suicide bombing, and another suspect was reportedly shot dead after a gunfight with the police.

Ali Yerlikaya, the Minister of Interior, stated on X (formerly Twitter), "Two terrorists arrived by car at the entrance of the Ministry of Interior Security General Directorate and carried out a bomb attack."

Following the explosion, a fire broke out, injuring two police officers. Currently, the police and military are controlling the area around the scene while the bomb disposal team is working.

The incident occurred just hours before the Turkish Parliament was set to reopen after the summer recess. The identities and motives of the suspects have not yet been confirmed.

During this session, the Turkish Parliament is scheduled to proceed with the ratification process of Sweden's accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Turkey has demanded the extradition of individuals related to the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), a terrorist organization, as a condition for supporting Sweden's NATO membership.
