The Democratic Party strongly criticized Kim Tae-woo, the People Power Party candidate for the Gangseo District Mayor by-election, for his remark asking to overlook the election expenses of 4 billion won as a joke.

On the 29th, spokesperson Park Sung-jun issued a written briefing stating, "During yesterday's Gangseo District Mayor election campaign, candidate Kim said he would earn 100 billion won, so please overlook about 4 billion won as a joke," adding, "He shamelessly created a by-election due to his own crime and ran again, wasting 4 billion won of taxpayers' money without any shame."

He continued, "With rising prices and loan interest rates causing hardship for the public, and the already insufficient district budget being wasted carelessly, the person responsible asks to overlook it as a joke?are they sane?" He pointed out, "Both President Yoon Seok-yeol, who pardoned such a criminal and nominated him as a candidate, and candidate Kim, who talks about jokingly wasting 4 billion won of taxpayers' money, are truly shameless and arrogant beyond measure."

He also stated, "Moreover, at the same event, People Power Party leader Kim Ki-hyun praised candidate Kim, saying that President Yoon must have trusted him so much to grant him a full pardon and reinstatement," adding, "With candidate Kim's outrageous remarks and leader Kim's boasting, it has become clear who should be judged in this election."

Candidate Kim Tae-woo said during the previous day's campaign, “The 4 billion won spent on this by-election caused by me, I would appreciate it if you could overlook it as a kind of commission fee.” Spokesperson Park said, "The people will surely judge this reckless and arrogant regime."
