"Police Officer Bitten by Biden's Dog Treated On Site"
President Joe Biden's pet dog, 'Commander,' has once again bitten Secret Service (SS) agents at the White House.
On the 26th (local time), according to The Hill, a U.S. congressional news outlet, the Secret Service issued a statement saying, "Around 8 p.m. the previous day, a federal officer belonging to the Secret Service was bitten by Commander," and "the officer who was bitten by Commander received treatment at the scene."
Commander, a German Shepherd who joined the White House in 2021, has bitten staff members at least 10 times so far. Commander was a dog gifted by President Biden's brother, James, in December 2021. It is reported that the Bidens are discussing with agents and staff ways to train and control the dog.
Previously, in October last year, Commander lost control while walking with First Lady Jill Biden and lunged at a Secret Service agent, causing controversy. At that time, it was reported that Mrs. Biden was unable to control the dog. In November of the same year, another staff member was bitten on the thigh and arm by Commander and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Originally, the Bidens had another German Shepherd named 'Major.' However, Major did not properly adapt to life at the White House and exhibited aggressive behavior, eventually leaving the White House. In contrast, the cat 'Willow,' who lives with the Bidens, is known not to have caused any incidents.
The White House has traditionally been open to dogs, and more than 100 dogs have passed through the White House to date. President Harry Truman, who served during World War II, once said, "If you want to make friends at the White House, get a dog." Especially, 'Millie,' owned by former President George H.W. Bush, and 'Bo' and 'Sunny,' owned by former President Barack Obama, were loved by many.
Meanwhile, according to a poll conducted by major U.S. media outlets The Washington Post (WP) and ABC from the 15th to the 20th, surveying 1,006 voters nationwide (margin of error ±3.5%), in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup, former President Donald Trump received 51%, and President Biden received 42%. The results show that Trump, who has been criminally indicted four times, is leading Biden by a margin well beyond the margin of error.
