At the first Supreme Council meeting held after being elected as the new floor leader, Hong stated, "President Yoon Suk-yeol must stop political suppression relying on the prosecution and restore politics with an attitude that respects the National Assembly and opposition parties." He added, "An official apology from the president for the excessive political investigation and the dismissal of Justice Minister Han Dong-hoon, who is responsible for the practical work, will be the beginning."
Regarding the court's decision to dismiss the arrest warrant, Hong said, "It confirmed that judicial justice is still alive," and added, "The investigation, in which the Yoon Suk-yeol administration mobilized political prosecutors to ruthlessly suppress the opposition and eliminate political rivals, has been halted at the court's threshold." He further stated, "The court's decision is not only a review of the warrant request but also an examination and judgment of the prosecution's excessive investigation and abuse of power."
He pointed out, "While the Yoon Suk-yeol government has been engrossed in political investigations using the prosecution, the economy has collapsed, national security has become precarious, and the people are threatened in terms of life and safety," adding, "The people are once again questioning the reason for the government's existence."
Hong said, "Nevertheless, the Yoon Suk-yeol government and the ruling party are wasting time blaming only the previous administration instead of reflecting and reforming state affairs," and stated, "The Democratic Party will rebuild the collapsing lives of the people. We will protect the lives of the people in the regular National Assembly session." He also emphasized, "We will review the national budget to ensure it is properly used to alleviate the hardships of the suffering people, improve their lives, and prepare for the future," and added, "Through personnel hearings and state audits, we will thoroughly inform the people of the Yoon Suk-yeol government's incompetence and administrative chaos and propose alternatives."
