‘Sean,’ the promotional character of the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, has advanced to the finals of the national character competition, the ‘6th Our Neighborhood Character Awards.’
‘Sean,’ a character based on a seagull, was created through a contest held in 2022 targeting citizens and students, and actively promotes Busan education both online and offline.
The ‘Our Neighborhood Character Awards’ is a competition hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Creative Content Agency to select the best regional and public characters. This year, over 130 characters from across the country participated, and after a rigorous screening process, 30 characters including ‘Sean’ advanced to the finals.
The final winners will be selected through a public vote held on the ‘Our Neighborhood Character’ website until October 20. Ten characters will receive awards including Grand Prize, Excellence Award, Merit Award, Encouragement Award, Good Design Award, and Hot Star Award.
To celebrate ‘Sean’s advancement to the finals and encourage voting, the Busan Office of Education has prepared a voting certification photo event. From the 27th until October 20, 600 participants who upload a screenshot of their vote on the event page will receive a small prize.
Kim Jong-gyun, spokesperson for the Busan Office of Education, said, “We hope that ‘Sean’ will become widely known through this advancement to the finals and deliver news about Busan education in a more friendly manner. We ask for the education community’s great interest and participation in this event.”
To increase the utilization of ‘Sean,’ the Busan Office of Education registered 24 types of emoticon stickers on Naver OQ Market last July, making them available for free use on Naver blogs, cafes, and more, and is also considering producing KakaoTalk emoticons.
