Haman-gun, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 26th that it is providing child allowances to promote the rights and welfare of children and to reduce the economic burden of child-rearing.

The child allowance is paid in cash (via bank transfer) on the 25th of each month at 100,000 KRW per child under the age of 8, regardless of income or daycare attendance, and can be received concurrently with parental benefits. Currently, 2,020 children in the county are receiving support.

However, for children receiving the child allowance who have stayed abroad for 90 consecutive days, have been reported missing, or are registered as missing or with unknown residence, the child allowance payment will be suspended. In cases of death or loss of nationality, the right to receive benefits is forfeited.

The county verifies all changes affecting the child allowance amount every month to maintain the appropriateness of the benefits. If a reason for suspension is confirmed, the child allowance is immediately stopped, and any overpaid child allowance will be fully reclaimed.

Lee Moon-seok, Director of the Resident Welfare Division of the county, said, “The child allowance is a system that serves as a foundation for children to grow up healthily, and we will do our best to ensure it is paid without any issues to alleviate the burden of child-rearing expenses.”

Applications for the child allowance can be made by visiting the administrative welfare center of the relevant jurisdiction or online through the Bokjiro website.

Required documents include the applicant’s ID, a copy of the applicant’s (guardian’s) bankbook, a power of attorney if applying on behalf of someone else, the proxy’s ID, and a copy of the guardian’s ID. Decisions will be made and notified within 30 days from the application date.

Even if receiving the child allowance, if reasons for suspension such as long-term overseas stay arise, the county office and the relevant administrative welfare center must be notified in advance.
