Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk Province is implementing a comprehensive 2023 Chuseok holiday public stability plan to ensure that visitors returning to their hometowns and citizens can spend a safe and comfortable holiday season during the nation’s major traditional festival, Chuseok.
The city announced on the 26th that it will operate a comprehensive situation room staffed by 11 people daily across seven sectors?disaster and accident, medical and quarantine, prices, transportation, living environment, and water and sewage?during the six-day holiday from the 28th of this month to the 3rd of next month.
In particular, with the downgrade of the COVID-19 infectious disease level (from level 2 to level 4), the number of visitors returning to their hometowns is expected to increase, so the city plans to prioritize citizen safety by operating the situation room accordingly.
First, to prepare for emergency patients, the city will operate one 24-hour emergency medical institution, 63 on-duty medical institutions, 42 public health centers and branch clinics, and 42 holiday duty pharmacies.
Detailed information about the medical institutions and holiday duty pharmacies operating during the holiday period can be found on the Jeongeup City Hall and Public Health Center websites, as well as through the Emergency Medical Information Service guidance system.
Additionally, an animal infectious disease situation room will be operated to prepare for AI (avian influenza), African swine fever, foot-and-mouth disease, and other livestock epidemics.
In the event of a highly pathogenic AI outbreak within the region, the city will strengthen disinfection at each farm and operate base and control checkpoints to prevent further spread to surrounding farms, making every effort to contain the outbreak.
To alleviate household burdens caused by rising prices, stabilize the livelihoods of local workers, and invigorate the local economy, price stabilization measures will be implemented along with traditional market shopping promotions and the operation of direct trade markets outside the region for Chuseok.
For the convenience and safety of holiday visitors, a transportation task force will be operated, with traffic guidance and enforcement officers deployed at habitual congestion points and bottlenecks such as Jeongeup Station, the terminal, and Saemgoul Market, and 58 public parking lots will be opened free of charge.
Alongside this, to provide a pleasant environment, road facilities, roadside accumulations, illegal advertisements, and urban parks will be maintained, and a living environment task force will manage household waste efficiently during the holiday period.
Mayor Lee Hak-su stated, “We will implement sector-specific measures to ensure citizen safety and minimize inconveniences so that citizens can spend a safe and comfortable Chuseok holiday. We will do our best to stabilize public life by operating a comprehensive situation room to prepare for emergencies such as various incidents and accidents.”
