Huawei Holds New Product Event Without Introducing 'Mate60 Pro'

Huawei held a new product launch event in China, but it appeared that there was no special mention of the highly anticipated new smartphone. Locally, there were reactions expressing disappointment.

Reuters reported on the 25th (local time) that Huawei held a new product launch event in Shenzhen, China, but did not provide any explanation about the new smartphone, the 'Mate60 Pro.'

The company live-streamed the event online for two hours but did not provide detailed explanations about the specifications or performance of the Mate60 Pro. Instead, only other new products such as smartwatches and smart cars were introduced.

Huawei CEO Yu Chengdong briefly mentioned during the event, "We are grateful for the tremendous support the entire country has shown since the launch of the Mate60 Pro," but there was no separate explanation.

Among those watching the event, dissatisfaction erupted. Immediately after the event ended, posts appeared on the Chinese social media platform Weibo stating, "Huawei did not mention the smartphone," and as these posts quickly spread, they recorded over 8 million views.

The Mate60 Pro is a new smartphone product that Huawei unveiled at the end of last month. Despite U.S. sanctions, Huawei attracted attention inside and outside the industry by equipping this product with the mobile processor 'Kirin 9000s,' made using advanced 7-nanometer (nm; 1 nm is one billionth of a meter) process technology.

Meanwhile, the 25th, the day Huawei held the event, marked the second anniversary of Meng Wanzhou, Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei's daughter and the rotating chairperson and chief financial officer (CFO), being released from house arrest in Canada and returning home. Some analysts suggested that Huawei deliberately chose this date for the event.
