Goheung-gun Takes Action to Manage Prices of Chuseok Seasonal Goods

Crackdown on Unfair Practices, Price Stabilization Campaign, etc.

Gongyeongmin, the governor of Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do, announced on the 25th that the county is implementing measures to stabilize prices ahead of the Chuseok holiday to curb rising costs.

Due to seasonal factors such as heavy rains and heatwaves this summer causing instability in agricultural and marine product prices, along with expected price increases during the holiday peak season, the county plans to focus on stabilizing prices mainly for Chuseok seasonal goods.

Since September 7, the county has been operating a comprehensive price stabilization task force and formed joint inspection teams with town and township offices and related departments to crack down on unfair commercial practices such as overcharging, measurement violations, collusion, and failure to display prices or origins for 20 key items including apples, pears, beef, pork, and croaker fish, which are popular during the holiday season.

When violations are detected, corrective recommendations will be issued, and habitual offenders will face fines. Meanwhile, businesses offering affordable prices and good service to satisfy consumers will receive support such as supplies, business promotion, and cashback linked with Shinhan Card.

Additionally, two price survey personnel have been deployed to traditional markets in Goheung-eup and Doyang-eup as well as large supermarkets to monitor the supply and price trends of key agricultural, marine, and livestock products. The results are posted on the county website to encourage consumers to make rational purchases and to promote fair commercial practices among businesses.

Furthermore, from the 18th, Governor Gongyeongmin, merchant associations, relevant departments, and town and township staff have conducted four rounds of street campaigns in traditional markets to encourage residents to participate in price stabilization and the eradication of unfair commercial practices.

Governor Gongyeongmin, who participated in the campaign, stated, “It is important not only to enforce regulations but also to inform residents and promote participation in policies.” He added, “We will do our best to manage prices and foster a healthy commercial culture so that residents can enjoy a warm Chuseok despite the high inflation.”

A county official said, “We plan to conduct inspections of unfair commercial practices at least once a week until Chuseok and to carry out thorough promotional campaigns for price stabilization.”
