A bear foaming at the mouth in agony... its stomach full of trash

Autopsy Results of Bear Found Collapsed in the US
At Discovery, Bear Had Bloodshot Eyes and Foam in Mouth

A bear found collapsed in the United States suffered and was eventually euthanized. Authorities conducted an autopsy to determine the cause of the bear's collapse. As a result, trash such as plastic bags was found inside the bear's body, evoking sadness.

According to a CNN report on the 18th (local time), on the 9th, a report was received that a bear was in distress in Colorado, a representative wildlife habitat in the United States, prompting the management bureau to respond. When staff arrived at the scene, the bear's eyes were bloodshot and swollen, and foam was coming from its mouth. It also showed symptoms associated with severe abdominal pain, including fever and difficulty moving.

The bear was an individual frequently appearing in Telluride City, Colorado. Considering the bear's suffering condition, the management bureau decided to euthanize it that evening.

The next morning, the autopsy revealed plastic bags, wet wipes, plastic containers, and other trash inside the body. Foods that bears cannot digest, such as peanuts, French fries, and onions, were also found. Inflammation was discovered in the bear's small and large intestines due to the trash.

Rachel Sral, an official from the Wildlife Management Bureau, said, "The digestive organs started to rot from the inside due to the trash, causing intestinal blockage," and added, "The trash blocked the connection between the stomach and intestines, preventing nutrient absorption in the body."

Rachel Sral continued, "It takes a long time for a bear weighing nearly 200kg to starve to death," and said, "It is truly sad and horrifying to imagine that it slowly died in pain during that time."

It is not uncommon for wildlife to suffer after ingesting trash. Especially bears can smell food and trash from up to 8km away, so if food and trash are discarded by the roadside, bears may approach. Additionally, bears have a habit of remembering places where they found food and returning later, so people who leave trash unattended may also be at risk.

The management bureau emphasized, "Residents in mountainous areas where bears frequently appear have been making efforts over the past 10 years, such as purchasing trash bins that can prevent bear access," and added, "Everyone's effort is needed, such as not leaving trash out carelessly and putting it out only on trash collection days."
