[Box Office] 'Gamu-ui Yeonggwang' 70,000 Viewers Rank 2nd
Weekend Theaters See 540,000 Visitors
A small but powerful film smiled brightly. The movie 'Jam,' made with a production budget of about 5 billion won, surpassed the break-even point and held the top spot at the weekend box office for three consecutive weeks.
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticket sales network on the 15th, the movie 'Jam' (directed by Yoo Jae-seon) attracted 170,551 viewers over the weekend (22nd to 24th), securing the number one position at the box office. Since its release on the 6th, the cumulative audience has reached 1,319,901.
'Jam' depicts the story of a happy newlywed couple, Hyun-su and Su-jin, who are plagued by Hyun-su's abnormal behavior during sleep like a nightmare, and their struggle to uncover the terrifying secret that begins the moment he falls asleep. It was invited to the Critics' Week at the 76th Cannes Film Festival this year.
The film is the directorial debut of Yoo Jae-seon, a former assistant director to Bong Joon-ho, and has gained popularity by surpassing the break-even point of about 800,000 viewers last week. Although it is not a big-budget film with massive production costs, it has gained popularity amid favorable reviews. It was praised for effectively capturing the appeal of the thriller genre and portraying ironic situations in a lighthearted and concise manner.
'Family Honor: Returns' (directed by Jung Tae-won and Jung Yong-gi), released on the 21st, started in second place with 71,482 viewers. By the weekend, 95,271 people had watched the film.
The third place was taken by the foreign film 'Gran Turismo,' released on the 20th, which attracted 53,620 viewers. 'Oppenheimer' ranked fourth with 35,144 viewers. Its cumulative audience reached 3,171,893.
Fifth place went to 'The Ghost Murder Case of Venice,' sixth to 'Argo Expedition: The Little Hero Patty's Great Adventure,' and seventh to 'Sweet and Sour: 7510.'
The total number of viewers who visited theaters over the weekend remained at 546,432.
