O Eon-seok, Dobong-gu Mayor, Visits Traditional Market to Encourage Merchants Ahead of Chuseok Holiday

Oh Eon-seok, the mayor of Dobong-gu, visited six traditional markets in the area ahead of the major national holiday Chuseok to check on the livelihood of local residents.

Holding the hands of merchants firmly, Mayor Oh said, “I empathize more than anyone with the difficulties merchants are facing due to the economic downturn ahead of the holiday season,” and added, “Dobong-gu will do its best to ensure the day comes when merchants can smile brightly.”

This communication initiative by Mayor Oh was undertaken to encourage merchants struggling with the economic downturn and rising prices, and to listen to the opinions of residents for the development of the district.

On the 21st, he visited ▲ Changdong Sinchang Market ▲ Changdong Alley Market ▲ Ssangmun Market, and on the 22nd, he visited ▲ Baegun Market ▲ Banghak-dong Dokkaebi Market ▲ Sindobong Market, visiting various stores and listening carefully to the merchants’ difficulties.

He also exchanged opinions with merchants on ways to secure brand awareness for traditional markets and improve customer convenience, contemplating ways to revitalize traditional markets.

Afterward, purchasing various foods such as rice cakes, fruits, and vegetables with Onnuri gift certificates, Mayor Oh toured the markets from the perspective of residents and promoted, “At Dobong-gu’s six traditional markets, you can enjoy the beauty of tradition along with modern convenience. We ask all residents to visit these traditional markets filled with fresh food and traditional dishes.”

Mayor Oh, who visited traditional markets from his first weekend in office, has a special attachment to them. He believes that increased use of traditional markets revitalizes the economy of ordinary people and strengthens the local economy. To this end, he has been actively promoting projects such as market managers, delivery service support, and sales stand improvements.

Oh Eon-seok, mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “We will prepare plans to revitalize the market economy through active communication and field visits,” adding, “Based on this, we will make Dobong-gu’s traditional markets destinations visited nationwide beyond Seoul.”

Meanwhile, the Chang 4-dong and Ssangmun 1-dong Community Centers held a ‘Chuseok Traditional Market Shopping Event’ to support traditional market merchants and create a warm holiday atmosphere.

On the 21st, Chang 4-dong, with the support of the Korea Racing Authority Dobong Branch, delivered packages to 30 elderly people with mobility difficulties and shopped with 20 elderly living alone at Sinchang Market. On the 22nd, Ssangmun 1-dong created a festive atmosphere by shopping at Baegun Market with 100 elderly people who would spend the holiday alone without their children.

KB Kookmin Bank and the Kia Hope Campaign Headquarters also participated. On the 22nd, at Banghak-dong Dokkaebi Market, they held a ‘Chuseok Traditional Market Love Sharing’ delivery ceremony and handed over 160 holiday goods consisting of dried shredded squid, dried seafood, and other items to the Dobong-gu Welfare Policy Division. The donated items will be distributed to local mental health case management recipients, welfare recipients, and low-income groups.
