Busan City and Busan Police Agency Operate Counseling Desk for Female Violence Victims at Ijen Center
Support for Investigation Procedure Counseling, Complaint Writing, and Connection to Jurisdictional Police Stations
Busan City announced that it is operating a counseling center for female victims of violence in collaboration with the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency to ensure their prompt and safe protection.
New types of violence such as digital sex crimes, stalking, and dating violence are evolving in various forms, with increasingly sophisticated methods. As a result, victims often hesitate or find it difficult to report to the police or visit police stations due to fear of threats or retaliation from perpetrators.
In response, Busan City and the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency have assigned full-time police officers within the Busan Metropolitan City Women’s Violence Prevention Comprehensive Support Center (Ijen Center) to operate a counseling desk for female victims of violence.
The center provides counseling to victims of domestic violence, sexual violence, digital sex crimes, stalking, and dating violence who feel fearful of reporting to the police, guiding them through the investigation procedures.
Additionally, if victims wish to proceed with filing a complaint after counseling, the center actively supports the preparation of complaint documents and connects them with the relevant police stations.
Beyond investigation counseling support, victims can receive free legal consultations through advisory lawyers at the Ijen Center. They can also access tailored integrated services according to their needs, including legal monitoring, accompaniment to investigative and legal institutions, emergency shelter support, medical expenses and recovery treatment program support, and institutional linkage support.
Victims of domestic violence, sexual violence, digital sex crimes, stalking, and dating violence who wish to receive counseling can visit the Ijen Center (Jungang-daero, Busanjin-gu) or apply by phone.
Kim Eun-hee, Director of the Women and Family Bureau of Busan City, stated, “Considering the increasing diversity of gender-based violence types and the severity of their impact, swift and systematic responses from related agencies are very important. Through collaboration between Busan City and the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency, we will further strengthen prompt protection and support for female victims of violence.”
Opened in September last year, the Busan Ijen Center is the first and only integrated response institution for female violence in a local government, playing a central role in preventing female violence and providing prompt protection and support.
For victims of digital sex crimes, the center has established a digital sex crime victim video deletion support system, offering counseling, support for deleting victim videos, investigation and legal assistance, and tailored services such as medical expense and recovery treatment program support.
For victims of stalking crimes, the center provides various services including emergency housing support, rental housing support, and recovery treatment.
