Will Galaxy Designs Change Next Year? Flat Frames Spotted Repeatedly

In the rendering (expected design) photos of major smartphones that Samsung Electronics plans to release next year, flat frames (frame·edges) have been repeatedly observed. This suggests that there is a high likelihood of design changes in the Galaxy series starting next year.

On September 21, IT tipster OnLeaks released rendered images of the Galaxy A15, which were produced in collaboration with The Tech Outlook.

The A15 is a budget device from Samsung that is expected to launch around February next year. The images released show that, while it is generally similar to the A14, the flat frame stands out. Unlike its predecessor, which featured a rounded frame, the new design is reminiscent of the iPhone. Flat frames may offer a less comfortable grip compared to rounded frames. However, the thickness has been reduced from the previous 9.1mm to 8.4mm.

This is also related to the anticipated design changes for Samsung's flagship Galaxy S24 series, set to launch early next year. Introducing the A15 rendered images, OnLeaks commented, "It is a very unique frame design that could also provide hints about the S24 series."

Last month, there were already predictions that the S24 series would shift from rounded to flat frames. IT tipster Ice Universe stated that the frame designs of the S24 and S24+ have been changed to flat. The previous S23 and S23+ frames had slight curvature, giving them a rounded appearance. While the top-tier S24 Ultra, which previously featured a curved edge screen, is expected to adopt a flat display, bringing a significant design change, the S24 and S24+ are also set to incorporate new design elements.

If the rendered images predicted by IT tipsters are accurate, the frames of next year's major Galaxy smartphones are expected to transition to a straight-edged design, similar to the iPhone or Galaxy Z Fold·Flip5. Recently, Samsung has been unifying the designs of its budget and flagship models. For example, while budget devices previously featured the so-called 'camera bump' contour-cut design for the rear camera array, they are now adopting the 'waterdrop camera' design, which used to be exclusive to flagship models. SamMobile stated, "The flat frame could become one of the key design elements that Samsung adopts in more than two smartphone series next year, including the S24."
