International Academic Conference '900 Years of Seonhwa Bongsa Goryeodogyeong'
'Goryeodogyeong' is a travel report written by Seo Geung (徐兢), an envoy from the Song Dynasty, who stayed in Goryeo for about a month in 1123 under the order of Emperor Huizong (徽宗). It extensively records the capital Gaegyeong of Goryeo, customs, and goods of the time. Although it is regarded as an important source for Goryeo studies, it contains only text without any illustrations.
An international academic conference imagining and interpreting the lost illustrations from various perspectives will be held. The National Research Institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage will host 'Seonhwabongsa Goryeodogyeong 900 Years' on the 22nd at the Shangri-La Beach Hotel in Mokpo. Marking the 900th anniversary of Seo Geung's visit to Goryeo, the conference will examine 'Goryeodogyeong' from a new perspective. An institute official stated, "To consider the maritime historical significance, we will conduct various thematic presentations and comprehensive discussions without limiting ourselves to the contents of 'Goryeodogyeong.'"
A large number of related experts will take the podium. They include Professor Sem Bermers from Seoul National University, Professor Moon Kyungho from Kongju National University, Professor Lee Jongbong from Pusan National University, and Professor Yokaichi Yasuhiro from Rikkyo University. Anyone can attend by completing the registration process on-site. The presentation materials can be found on the National Research Institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage website.
