New Nuri Building Constructed at Korea University Guro Hospital... "Expansion of Medical Facilities"

A new building will be constructed at Korea University Guro Hospital in Guro-gu, Seoul. This is to expand medical facilities such as operating rooms.

On the 20th, Seoul City held the 14th Urban Planning Committee meeting and announced on the 21st that it conditionally approved the change of urban planning facilities (comprehensive medical facilities) for the area around 80 Guro-dong, Guro-gu.

Established in 1983, Korea University Guro Hospital has seen the number of outpatients double compared to 2015, and the number of patients with severe diseases is gradually increasing, making it urgent to improve the medical environment by expanding treatment spaces. Due to the lack of available space for additional construction, the hospital is pursuing an urban planning change to expand the hospital site.

Korea University Guro Hospital plans to include approximately 2,800㎡ of land currently used as a parking lot into the comprehensive medical facilities and build the Nuri Building.

The existing building has a building coverage ratio of 48.60% (17,425.96㎡), with a remaining coverage ratio of 1.40% (501.19㎡). To construct the Nuri Building (Cancer Hospital), additional hospital facility site expansion (80-25 Guro-dong, area 2,827.5㎡) was necessary.

Once the Nuri Building at Korea University Guro Hospital opens, the hospital will expand operating rooms and the regional emergency medical center as a specialized hospital for severe diseases, further strengthening the severe disease treatment system. The Cancer Hospital and Breast & Thyroid Center will be expanded, and remodeling of the existing new building will also be undertaken. Additionally, noise generated from the existing steel parking lot will be reduced, greatly improving the surrounding residential environment.

The urban planning facility (comprehensive medical facility) change notification for the construction of the Nuri Building at Korea University Guro Hospital will be completed by October, with construction starting in early 2024 and opening scheduled for the end of 2027 to provide medical services to citizens.

A Seoul City official stated, “Like Korea University Guro Hospital, we will continue to support urban planning to enhance the functions of medical resources in the region and facilitate smooth facility expansion.”
