Experience Diverse 'Salon Culture' Throughout Yangjaecheon-gil, Seocho-gu Yangjaecheon Flea Market

Seocho-gu has created a space for ‘salon culture’ where people share diverse tastes and hobbies along Yangjaecheon-gil, a street famous for exotic restaurants such as wine bars.

Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) will hold various salon culture festivals starting from the 22nd to create a commercial district along Yangjaecheon-gil where everyday life becomes art.

Last year, the Yangjaecheon-gil commercial district was the only area in the Gangnam region selected as a Seoul local brand development district. The district is investing up to 3 billion KRW by next year to develop Yangjaecheon-gil into a representative commercial area in Seoul where citizens can feel its charm.

This event aims to create a high-quality, nature-friendly commercial district where residents continuously meet and interact, featuring various attractions and activities throughout Yangjaecheon-gil such as ▲Taste Exchange Meeting ‘Move Salon Festival’ ▲Local Flea Market ‘Yangjae Art Salon’ ▲Craft Exhibition ‘Newtro Yangjae Salon’.

First, the district will hold the cultural and artistic festival ‘Move Salon Festival’ in collaboration with the merchants’ association on the 22nd and 23rd under the Yeongdong 1 Bridge along Yangjaecheon. About 500 participants including Seoul National University of Education students, young people, famous celebrities, local merchants, and citizens will enjoy various hobby programs and workshops with people who share similar tastes.

On the 22nd, there will be ▲‘Youth Salon’ where young artists showcase talents such as jazz, guitar, dance, and magic performances ▲‘Food Salon,’ a hip night market featuring dishes from popular restaurants in the Yangjaecheon-gil commercial district. On the 23rd, participants will present ‘Taste Booths’ showcasing shared hobbies and dreams, and community programs such as travel, yoga, and music under ‘Hobby Salon.’ Additionally, there will be a ‘Salon Forum’ discussing salon culture and a ‘Salon Party’ celebrating the launch of the salon with classical and acoustic music.

The ‘Move Salon Festival’ will be held from 5 PM to 11 PM on September 22 and from 3 PM to 11 PM on September 23.

Also, the nearby Yangjaecheon Pop-up Zone (Yeongdong 1 Bridge to Waterfront Stage) will operate the flea market ‘Yangjae Art Salon’ selling handmade crafts and daily accessories starting from the 22nd. Over 50 participants including the Seoul Women’s Craft Center, social economy cultural and artistic startups, and young art artists will take part. The event runs every Friday from 5 PM to 10 PM and Saturday from 1 PM to 8 PM until November 11. Visitors to the gallery can enjoy a 3,000 KRW discount coupon promotion usable at the market.

Additionally, the ‘Salon in Yangjaecheon Gallery’ (42, Yangjaecheon-gil 21-gil) will host a craft exhibition showcasing the unique craft trends of Yangjaecheon-gil until the 31st of next month. The exhibition, titled ‘Newtro Yangjae Salon,’ features four renowned craft artists. About 100 pieces including metalwork, lacquerware, and mother-of-pearl, reinterpreting the harmony of tradition and modernity of Yangjaecheon-gil, will be displayed. Also, the hat brand ‘Blesson,’ purchased by BTS and others, will be invited to showcase fedoras under the same theme.

Going forward, the district plans to brand the ‘salon culture’ unique to the Yangjaecheon-gil commercial district to attract many visitors and revitalize the area by improving facilities and developing various programs.

Jeon Seong-su, Mayor of Seocho-gu, said, “We will continue to develop the Yangjaecheon-gil commercial district into a space where everyday life becomes art and art becomes everyday life for our residents.”
