Driver Rescued After Entering Waters Near Dokgeo Island Pier in Jindo-gun

Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Kim Hae-cheol) presented letters of appreciation on the 16th to three individuals, including the captain of the ferry Seomsarang 9, who rescued a driver whose vehicle fell into the sea at Dokgeo-do pier in Jindo-gun.

Chief Kim Hae-cheol awarded letters of appreciation on the 19th to three people, including the captain of the ferry Seomsarang 9 (149t), who rescued the driver of a 1-ton truck that fell into the sea while attempting to board the ferry at Dokgeo-do pier in Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do.

According to the Coast Guard on the 20th, Captain Kim Yong-su (33) of the ferry Seomsarang 9 and two village residents who witnessed the accident during passenger and vehicle boarding operations entered the sea and safely rescued the vehicle driver using a life ring and rope.

The rescued driver, Mr. A (in his 60s), said, "The accident happened so suddenly that I was too shocked to think clearly, but I am grateful to those who rescued me and to the maritime police who arrived at the scene."

Captain Kim, who received the letter of appreciation, said, "At the time, the truck was reversing toward the ferry when it suddenly fell into the sea and quickly sank. My only thought was to save the person first. Anyone would have naturally taken action to rescue in such a situation."

Chief Kim Hae-cheol stated, "I would like to once again thank Captain Park for his good deed in saving a precious life through prompt response and swift rescue efforts. We will continue to strengthen the public-private rescue cooperation system."
