The Korea Communications Commission (KCC) announced on the 18th that it will immediately file an appeal against the court's suspension of the KCC's decision to appoint a successor to Kwon Tae-seon, chairman of the Korea Broadcasting Culture Promotion Foundation (MBC Foundation).
Previously, the KCC dismissed Chairman Kwon and appointed Director Kim Seong-geun to the vacant director position, but according to the court's ruling, Director Kim is temporarily unable to perform his duties.
In response, the KCC stated in a press release, "The court has previously dismissed requests for suspension of execution regarding dismissal orders to ensure the government's legitimate authority to appoint and dismiss public broadcasting board members," adding, "This recent decision appears to have insufficiently considered the grounds for dismissal, including improper obstruction of audits related to the misconduct of the presidential candidate, following the approval of the suspension of execution for Chairman Kwon's dismissal."
It continued, "This is a very concerning decision as it raises concerns that the government's personnel authority could be undermined," and expressed "deep regret over the situation where confusion inevitably arises again in the decision-making of the MBC Foundation and the normal operation of public broadcasting."
