Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) will hold the "Dementia Overcoming Festival in the Dementia Safe Village" in Beondong, designated as a dementia safe village, on the 21st. This festival is organized to create a social consensus that can live with dementia and to foster a positive local culture regarding dementia.
The festival will take place at the plaza in front of the Beondong Dementia Memory Care Shelter (208 Ohyeon-ro, Gangbuk-gu, Beondong 3 Complex Multi-family Welfare Housing), where various educational and experiential programs for elderly people with dementia will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The district operates cognitive activity programs such as memory tests using bead puzzles and tablet PCs as part of dementia prevention programs, and also provides guidance on "pre-fingerprint registration" to prepare for missing dementia patients.
"Pre-fingerprint registration" is a system that registers fingerprints, photos, guardian contact information, and other personal details of elderly dementia patients in the police system. It is implemented to quickly return missing elderly patients to their guardians by using the pre-registered data in case the elderly get lost.
The district also distributes "missing prevention bracelets" that can record guardian contact information and other personal details. The "missing prevention bracelet" is used by checking the QR code on the bracelet, which contains the pre-entered guardian's contact information and other personal details. Detailed usage instructions and personal information registration will be conducted at the Beondong Dementia Memory Care Shelter.
In addition, health management support programs for the elderly, such as ▲introduction to healthy diets ▲dental care education for the elderly ▲growing companion plants, will be provided, along with booths related to disabilities that aim to improve awareness of people with disabilities and provide information on various welfare programs for the disabled on the day of the festival.
Furthermore, the district will hold an SNS event where participants who post event photos on their SNS accounts will receive food exchange coupons, and small food items and gifts will be provided to program participants.
Lee Soon-hee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, "Since Gangbuk-gu has a large elderly population aged 65 and over, we organized this festival to improve health management and awareness for elderly dementia patients. We hope many elderly people participate in the festival to gain various information and, through this festival, visit the Gangbuk-gu Dementia Safe Center frequently to receive support."
