Entels is showing strong performance. It is interpreted to be influenced by the news that the world's number one satellite communication operator, Starlink, has partnered with SK Telecom.
As of 10:35 AM on the 18th, Entels is trading at 5,400 KRW, up 6.72% compared to the previous day.
According to industry sources the day before, Starlink, a satellite communication business operated by SpaceX, a U.S. aerospace company led by Tesla founder Elon Musk, recently officially signed a strategic partnership agreement with SK Telecom and its subsidiary SK Telink for the purpose of "providing domestic low-earth orbit satellite communication services."
SK Telink plans to provide comprehensive cooperation for the sale of Starlink's domestic low-earth orbit satellite communication services, ranging from the installation of dedicated antennas and other terminals to marketing through its nationwide sales network. Low-earth orbit satellite communication services use communication sent from low-earth orbit satellites orbiting the earth at altitudes between 300 and 1,500 km to provide internet services. This service is gaining attention as an alternative for shadow areas where terrestrial networks do not reach and for various disaster situations.
SpaceX currently supports broadband internet services in more than 50 countries worldwide based on about 4,000 satellites. SpaceX plans to launch Starlink services this year in Southeast Asia and Africa, including Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Tanzania, and Kenya.
Meanwhile, Entels primarily operates in the development and supply of operation support systems for wired and wireless communication service providers. Its second largest shareholder is SK Telecom, holding 6.01%. Previously, Entels jointly developed a 5G MEC solution business with SK Telecom.
