'36 Projects Selected for Regional Cultural Heritage Education Promotion Program'

Pilot Implementation of the 'Cultural Heritage Education Textbook Development Project'

The Cultural Heritage Administration announced on the 18th that it has selected thirty-six programs for next year's 'Local Cultural Heritage Education Activation Project,' including thirty-four 'Cultural Heritage Visiting Schools' and 'Cultural Heritage Experience Classes,' as well as two 'Cultural Heritage Education Textbook Development Projects.' The Local Cultural Heritage Education Activation Project is a project that discovers and supports cultural heritage education programs that strengthen the cultural identity of local communities or involve active participation by local residents. It is funded by the lottery fund.

Since 2018, the Cultural Heritage Administration has conducted the project annually through local government competitions. Next year, to establish a foundation for cultural heritage education specialized by region, the 'Cultural Heritage Education Textbook Development Project' will also be piloted. These include 'Newly Encountering Our Cultural Heritage' in Nam-gu, Gwangju, and 'Our Country's Pagodas/Our Country's Ancient Tombs' in Chungbuk.

'Cultural Heritage Visiting Schools' is a project that directly visits elementary, middle, and high schools, regional children's centers, and schools for the disabled to provide youth with experience-oriented cultural heritage education. Next year, it will support twenty-two programs such as 'To Remember, Negative Cultural Heritage' in Mapo-gu, Seoul; 'Meeting Gijang Eupseong Restored in the Metaverse' in Gijang-gun, Busan; and 'Mysterious! Find the Modern Cultural Heritage of Jung-gu, Incheon!' in Jung-gu, Incheon.

For 'Cultural Heritage Experience Classes,' which involve directly visiting cultural heritage sites to experience excavation and pottery making, seven programs have been selected, including 'Desirable Cheongju: The Story of Cheongju in the Three Kingdoms Period Everyone Wanted' in Cheongju, Chungbuk, and 'K-Story, the Fountain of Wisdom Unfolding in Geumjeong' in Geumjeong-gu, Busan. Five programs combining 'Cultural Heritage Visiting Schools' and 'Cultural Heritage Experience Classes' were also selected, such as 'Scientists Protecting Cultural Heritage from Climate Change' in Buyeo-gun, Chungnam, and 'Muju's Cultural Heritage! Story Exploration Team / Honam's Samhan, Muju Hanpungnu' in Muju-gun, Jeonbuk.
