Direct Market for Chuseok Seasonal Products at Hongjecheon on the 23rd of This Month

Seodaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seongheon) is preparing a market to sell agricultural, livestock, and marine products as well as holiday essentials at prices lower than the market rate ahead of Chuseok. On the 23rd of this month, Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the district will hold a "Chuseok Direct Transaction Market" around the Hongjecheon Waterfall Square and the outdoor terrace of the cafe "Pokpo."

Products such as Hongcheon Hanwoo beef, fruits, chestnuts, Hangwa (traditional Korean sweets), ginseng, dried yellow corvina, dried vegetables, dried seafood, seaweed, and potato dumplings will be sold from 25 cities and counties nationwide, mainly from Seodaemun-gu's sister cities.

This event allows producers and producer groups to sell directly without intermediaries, enabling customers to purchase fresh products from the production area at affordable prices. Additionally, participating companies plan to voluntarily donate up to 5% of their profits to the Community Chest of Korea to help neighbors in need.

Besides the market, there will be magic shows, Taekwondo demonstrations, and balloon performances. Food trucks selling fried snacks, dakgangjeong (sweet crispy fried chicken), bingsu (shaved ice dessert), and skewers will also operate. A free traditional games experience booth will be set up where visitors can make ddakji (folded paper tiles), top-spinning toys, and songpyeon (rice cakes), and play games such as sanyangchigi, beonadoligi, jegichagi, and bisachigi.

Lee Seongheon, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, said, "We expect this market to reduce the burden of holiday shopping for residents, promote coexistence between urban and rural areas, and be a place where families can enjoy together."
