Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) announced on the 14th that it will create an 'Ecological Stream Garden' near Odong Forest Library, which is considered the most beautiful library in South Korea, located in Odong Neighborhood Park.

Odong Forest Library is situated within Odong Neighborhood Park, a complex cultural park featuring scenic barrier-free forest trails and the Aegineungteo site. The 'Odong Neighborhood Park Ecological Stream Garden Project' aims to create a waterside space with flowing water and aquatic plants where residents can experience nature and relax, addressing the relatively limited waterfront spaces in the Seongbuk and Gangbuk living areas.

Kim Seong-gi, team leader of the Parks and Greenery Division at Seongbuk-gu Office, who played a key role in transforming the abandoned wood-chipping yard?long neglected and a source of numerous complaints about odor, mosquitoes, and safety hazards?into the beloved Odong Forest Library for not only Seongbuk residents but also citizens from other areas, has once again proposed the idea and blueprint for this project.

The Odong Neighborhood Park Ecological Stream Garden will serve as a waterside space for residents during normal times and can be utilized as a multi-purpose flood control facility during disasters. This year, 100 million KRW of city funds will be invested to carry out the detailed design of the ecological stream garden, with full-scale construction planned for next year.

The project includes refurbishing the existing stone waterways to create an 'Ecological Stream Facility' where water flows following mountain birds, a 'Yunsul Pond' where sunlight enters the water collection area, a 'Rest Deck Shelter' where visitors can relax in the shade while listening to the sound of water, and a 'Moss Garden' using vegetation around the stream, offering various attractions.

Seongbuk-gu, which continues efforts to create complex leisure spaces within walking distance for residents, expects that the 'Odong Neighborhood Park Ecological Stream Garden' will provide citizens with a more diverse park environment alongside existing facilities such as Odong Forest Library (Book Resting Place), Healing Forest, and Pine Rest Shelter in Odong Neighborhood Park.

Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, stated, "We will actively continue efforts to transform neglected or unusable sites into spaces beneficial to residents through new ideas from Seongbuk public officials."
