Sahmyook University and Guri Urban Corporation Sign MOU to Promote 'Guri Technovalley Development Project'

Participation of Four Universities in Northeast Seoul
Guri City Advances Key Campaign Promises

Four universities in the northeastern Seoul area?Sahmyook University, Kwangwoon University, Seoul Women’s University, and Seoul National University of Science and Technology?have signed a business agreement with Guri Urban Corporation to promote the ‘Guri Technovalley Development Project.’


The agreement ceremony held on the 13th at the main conference hall of Sahmyook University’s Centennial Memorial Hall was attended by Kim Ilmok, President of Sahmyook University; Kim Jongheon, President of Kwangwoon University; Seung Hyunwoo, President of Seoul Women’s University; Kim Seonghwan, Vice President of Education at Seoul National University of Science and Technology; and Yoo Donghyuk, President of Guri Urban Corporation.


The Guri Technovalley project aims to attract companies and research facilities focused on advanced 4th industrial revolution industries in the Sano-dong area of Guri City, fostering high value-added new industries and establishing a foundation for sustainable regional economic revitalization. The project was initially secured in 2017 as a Gyeonggi Province public contest during the 6th term of Mayor Baek Gyeonghyun’s administration but was canceled due to lack of feasibility. It is now being re-promoted as a key pledge in the 8th term.


According to the agreement, each institution agreed to establish an organic cooperative relationship to successfully carry out the Guri Technovalley development project.

Specific cooperation details include ▲supporting company relocation to build advanced industrial infrastructure ▲joint efforts for partnerships and cooperation ▲joint efforts to research advanced industrial technologies and revitalize industries ▲sharing advanced 4th industrial revolution technologies and related information ▲developing and operating joint educational programs to cultivate core talents for the Technovalley.


President Kim said, “I hope the Guri Technovalley project will establish a foundation for fostering advanced 4th industrial industries in the northeastern metropolitan area. We will do our best to create a Technovalley that contributes to mutual development.”


Yoo Donghyuk, President of Guri Urban Corporation, stated, “We will promote the successful advancement of Guri Technovalley based on close exchanges and cooperation with the four universities, including Sahmyook University. We expect this to secure future growth engines for Guri City and provide an opportunity for each university to secure outstanding talents.”
