Water Flows Abundantly, Electricity Costs Reduced... Ulsan Cheonsang Water Purification Plant Tap Water Transmission Pump Modernization Completed

Ulsan Waterworks Headquarters "Installation of High-Efficiency Water Pump and Power-Saving Inverter"

The water transmission pumps at Ulsan Cheonsang Water Purification Plant have been upgraded with the latest equipment and will be operational starting from the 15th. The new system is equipped with power-saving devices and replaced with high-efficiency facilities, being recognized as an innovative case that reduces electricity costs.

Ulsan City Waterworks Headquarters announced on the 14th that the "Cheonsang Water Purification Plant Water Transmission Pump Modernization Project" has been completed.

This project, which began in 2020, involved replacing the aging and efficiency-declined transmission pump facilities due to long-term use with energy-saving, high-efficiency transmission pump facilities.

Water Flows Abundantly, Electricity Costs Reduced... Ulsan Cheonsang Water Purification Plant Tap Water Transmission Pump Modernization Completed A newly installed high-efficiency water supply pump at Cheonsang Water Purification Plant.

The main project details include the installation of 13 high-efficiency transmission pumps ranging from 450 horsepower (HP) to 500 HP (3 units at the 1st purification plant and 10 units at the 2nd purification plant).

The Waterworks Headquarters also installed three inverters for energy saving and developed and installed a proprietary remote automation control program. The total project cost was 1.5 billion KRW.

The headquarters introduced that electricity bills have been reduced by 320 million KRW over the past three years compared to 2019, before the modernization of the transmission system began.

By applying the inverter system to low-voltage motors, they also achieved a construction cost saving effect of 240 million KRW. This project was selected as an "excellent case" at the 2022 Innovation Excellence Competition promoted by Ulsan City.

Lee Young-hwan, head of the Waterworks Headquarters, said, "We have greatly improved the operational efficiency of the transmission pumps, reduced electricity costs, enhanced the stable supply function of tap water, and significantly increased reliability."

The total capacity of Ulsan City's water facilities is 550,000 tons (Cheonsang 280,000 tons, Hoeya 270,000 tons).
