Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, announced on the 13th that it will hold the event ‘Autumn with Books, Book Picnic’ on the 16th at Pureungil area.
This event is part of the ‘Reading Dong-gu Project,’ which Dong-gu has been promoting for four years as a city aspiring to be a humanities city. It aims to foster a reading culture by allowing people to experience various books in urban squares and parks, escaping from their daily routines.
Starting at 10 a.m. with an opening ceremony, the awards ceremony for the ‘2023 Book of the Year’ reading contest will be held, followed by a variety of events themed around exhibitions, experiences, talks, and reading yards until 5 p.m.
The results of the ‘2023 Book of the Year’ reading contest will be on permanent display from the 16th to the 22nd at Pureungil Park area, allowing residents to freely stroll and appreciate them.
Additionally, themed activities include ▲Experiences engaging the five senses (such as picture book readings) ▲Meetings with the ‘Book of the Year’ authors (authors Lee Hee-jeong and Kim Byung-ha) ▲Family reading quiz events (limited to the first 12 teams).
Moreover, various side events will add to the picnic’s enjoyment, such as a magic bubble art show for children and family visitors, an outdoor reading space called ‘Book Resting Area’ where visitors can relax with a book, and the ‘Bukjeok Bukjeok Book Market,’ where residents bring books they have finished reading to exchange or sell with neighbors.
