National Police Agency selects 25 'Investigation Expert Veterans' as Chief Investigators

The Responsible Investigator is the highest qualification level within the 'Investigator Qualification Management System' introduced in 2020 to enhance investigators' investigative capabilities. Candidates are selected through a descriptive exam evaluating legal review and command skills based on investigative records in three fields: investigation, criminal, and cyber, as well as a qualification assessment examining investigative ability and integrity.

In the 4th Responsible Investigator selection exam held in June, 298 full-time investigators took the test. Through the qualification assessment of those who passed, a total of 25 individuals (pass rate 8.4%) were selected: 13 in the investigation field, 10 in the criminal field, and 2 in the cyber field. By rank, there are 7 Police Superintendents, 7 Police Inspectors, and 11 Police Lieutenants. Among them, 11 belong to the National Police Agency or provincial police agencies, and 14 belong to police stations.

Since the 1st Responsible Investigator in 2020, the National Police Agency has selected a total of 203 Responsible Investigators to date. Among them, 8 have passed in two fields, holding qualifications as Responsible Investigators in both areas. Investigators selected as Responsible Investigators are prioritized for key positions such as heads of direct investigation departments at provincial police agencies and investigation departments at police stations, strengthening the linkage with investigative police personnel management to allow them to fully demonstrate their capabilities.

A representative of the National Investigation Headquarters of the National Police Agency stated, “The public’s expectations for police investigations continue to rise,” and added, “We plan to operate the Investigator Qualification Management System solidly to encourage investigators to improve their investigative capabilities on their own.”
