Gwangju Nam-gu to Hold Drug Addiction Prevention Seminar on the 15th

Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is hosting the '2023 Drug Addiction Prevention Seminar' to assess the current situation regarding drug issues and to establish a social safety net that protects against drugs.

According to Nam-gu on the 12th, the drug addiction prevention seminar, organized by the Integrated Addiction Management Support Center, will be held on the 15th from 1 PM to 6 PM in the large conference room on the 8th floor of the district office.


The seminar's theme is 'The Present and Future of Drug Addiction,' and approximately 150 participants, including experts from various fields, mental health and addiction prevention management officials, and workers from psychiatric medical institutions, are expected to attend.


In the first part, Professor Cho Young-seok from Honam Theological University will give a lecture on 'The Present of Drug Addiction.'


Professor Cho will explain the increasing trend of drug offenders and the current status of distribution and spread, and hold a Q&A session on legal punishment provisions for drug addiction, criminal punishment procedures, and myths and truths about drug crimes.


In the second part, Director Cho Sung-nam of the National Forensic Hospital will take the stage.


Under the theme 'The Future of Drug Addiction,' he plans to share vivid stories including the real experiences of addicts who visited the hospital due to drug addiction and the role of the local community in preventing the spread of drugs.


He is also expected to lecture on the current status of drug treatment protection facilities and treatment methods.


A Nam-gu official stated, "The number of people using drugs is increasing regardless of age, and especially among younger age groups, drug spread is occurring," adding, "As the nation has declared war on drugs, we will do our best to establish a safety net to protect the local community."
