Seongbuk-gu, Safety Inspection in Housing Construction Sector Ahead of Chuseok

Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) is conducting safety inspections in the housing construction sector to ensure a safe Chuseok holiday for Seongbuk residents.

The safety inspections will be carried out from the 4th to the 22nd of this month, with external experts in each field collaborating with the Seongbuk-gu Office Architecture Department to enhance the professionalism and effectiveness of the safety checks.

The inspection targets include four large construction sites, ten disaster-risk facilities and residential slopes, and six steep slopes. The inspection method follows detailed items on the safety checklist, focusing on key inspections and comprehensive visual checks.

The main inspection contents for private construction sites include ▲dangerous tasks such as demolition, excavation, and crane operations, management status of temporary facilities, drainage channels, and soil runoff prevention facilities, as well as other hazardous factors on site. For disaster-risk facilities and residential slopes, ▲the management status of the facilities and potential risk factors are checked. For steep slopes, ▲bulging of retaining walls and embankments, and occurrences of rockfalls on cut slopes are inspected.

During heavy rainfall, safety checks are conducted frequently on vulnerable facilities such as excavation and crane operation sites in private construction, and disaster-risk facilities that are at risk of collapse.

Minor issues found during inspections are immediately corrected on site, and construction-related parties are instructed to make necessary improvements for pointed issues. For disaster-risk facilities, the results are communicated to the managing entities, who are required to carry out repairs, reinforcements, and other safety measures for risk factors. A system has also been established to quickly share and respond to situations via SNS in preparation for any disaster occurrences.

Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, stated, “Through joint safety inspections with external experts who have secured professionalism, we identify and eliminate risk factors in advance and thoroughly manage safety to do our best for a safe Chuseok holiday for Seongbuk residents.”
