Gyeongbuk Yeongyang Lions Club (President Lee Dong-wook) conducted a chili pepper picking volunteer activity on the 9th for local farmers in need, together with over 300 members of the International Lions Club Association District 356-E (Gyeongbuk).

Yeongyang-gun, Over 300 Members of International Lions Club Gyeongbuk District ... Chili Pepper Picking Volunteer Activity More than 300 members of the Yeongyang-gun International Lions Club 356-E (Gyeongbuk) District participated in a volunteer activity to pick chili peppers.

This event was organized by the Yeongyang Club, selecting 10 farms across 6 towns and townships. About 30 clubs from Gyeongbuk, including Pohang Haedong MJF Club, participated to directly lend a helping hand to farms struggling to harvest chili peppers due to traffic accidents or elderly dementia. The participating clubs independently prepared lunch boxes, bottled water, gloves, and other supplies without imposing any burden on the farms to carry out the chili picking event.

After the chili picking event, a modest gathering was held to promote unity and harmony at the district level. District Governor Kwak Dong-hoon and district officers and members expressed their gratitude, saying that although it was physically demanding, they felt great fulfillment in being able to provide even a small help to the struggling farms so that the chili peppers could be harvested in time.

The farms in need in the region include three farms such as Mr. Kim’s farm in Hwacheon-ri, Yeongyang-eup; one farm such as Mr. Kim’s in Sanhae-ri, Ipam-myeon; Mr. Kim’s farm in Gumae-ri, Cheonggi-myeon; Mr. Lee’s farm in Gacheon-ri, Ilwol-myeon; two farms such as Mr. Park’s in Ogori, Subi-myeon; and Mr. Lee’s farm in Dapgok-ri, Seokbo-myeon, totaling 10 farms.

Mr. Kim, whose farm in Hwacheon-ri, Yeongyang-eup received help that day, said, “Even though it is chili harvest season, we were unable to harvest due to a shortage of labor, and I was at a loss and very worried about what to do. The Lions Club members harvested the chili peppers well, which was a great help.”

County Governor Oh Do-chang said, “I am grateful to the families of Yeongyang Lions Club members who quietly engage in many volunteer activities in the region. Despite everyone being busy, the members of the International Lions Club Association District 356-E (Gyeongbuk) personally came to our area to help struggling farms, which was truly a great support. I sincerely thank them.”

Recently, the Yeongyang Lions Club raised 1.5 million won in medical expenses by collecting donations from members to help the family of Mr. Choi in Sinpyeong-ri, Seokbo-myeon, who faced forced discharge from the hospital due to lack of medical fees for a family member with a mental disability.
