Hwasun-gun Hosts the 16th Dementia Overcoming Day Week Event

Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 8th that it will designate the period from the 11th to the 22nd as Dementia Overcoming Week in celebration of the 16th Dementia Overcoming Day, and will hold various events to create a dementia-friendly society built on warm interest and love.

Dementia Overcoming Day was designated worldwide in 1995 by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) to provide an opportunity to newly recognize the care of dementia patients by families and society.

This Dementia Overcoming Week event consists of various activities such as ▲a small exhibition commemorating Dementia Overcoming Day ▲a dementia overcoming campaign ▲and dementia prevention education.

The small exhibition commemorating Dementia Overcoming Day will be held in the lobby on the first floor of the Hwasun-gun Dementia Safety Center, featuring works and activity photos of dementia patients and their families who participated in dementia programs during the event period (11th to 22nd).

The dementia overcoming campaign will be held on the 18th from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Hwasun Goindol Traditional Market to promote the improvement of negative perceptions of dementia among local residents and the importance of early dementia screening.

A county official said, “Through this event, we will actively strive to improve negative perceptions of dementia through warm interest and love to create a dementia-friendly society.”

Meanwhile, the ‘Brain Strengthening Dementia Prevention Education’ for the healthy and happy old age of seniors will be held at the Nadri Senior Welfare Center in Hwasun-eup on the 18th from 2 to 4 p.m.

The education will invite a brain health specialist instructor to provide exercises to improve cognitive abilities using fine motor skills and various information on dementia prevention, and the promotional booth will introduce the main projects of the Hwasun-gun Dementia Safety Center.
