KTX Service Connecting Seoul and Jeonju to Commence on the 15th
The Jeonju International Sori Festival announced on the 7th that it will operate a KTX festival train in time for the opening on the 15th.
The 'Sori Festival Train' is scheduled to depart from Seoul Yongsan Station at 4 p.m. on the 15th, coinciding with the opening performance. When passengers enter the venue, Jeonju Korean Sori Culture Hall, the festival will officially begin.
The Sori Festival Train is a dedicated train consisting of four KTX cars. About 200 people, including invited guests such as foreign diplomats in Korea, press members, artists, performance staff, businesspeople, and famous celebrities, as well as pre-booked audience members, will board the train.
Applicants were recruited through a prior application process. Passengers will be provided with tickets to the opening performance "Coexistence and Recovery" and conveniences such as shuttle buses connecting the KTX station to the venue.
The 'Sori Festival Train' was inspired by Germany's 'Bayreuth Festival,' founded by Wagner. This festival, regarded as the origin of summer music festivals worldwide, was the first in the world to operate a festival train.
Lee Wang-jun, chairman of the Jeonju International Sori Festival organizing committee, said, "Among the festival trains around the world, the most beautiful scenery is still created by the Glyndebourne Festival train near London, UK," adding, "The sight of family audiences dressed in tuxedos and carrying picnic boxes boarding the festival train to enjoy the opera festival held in a countryside opera house and vast farms and plains was very romantic and joyful."
The Jeonju International Sori Festival will be held for ten days from the 15th to the 24th under the theme "Coexistence and Recovery," taking place in Hanok Village and 14 cities and counties in Jeonju and Jeonbuk. Artists from 11 countries overseas will participate, presenting 89 programs and 108 performances.
