'Personal Data Regulation Response' KISA Holds Global Personal Data Protection Seminar

Scheduled for 9/14 (Thu)
Free Legal Consultation with Experts Available

The Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) announced that it will hold the 'Global Personal Data Protection Compliance Seminar' for domestic company practitioners responding to overseas personal data regulations on the 14th at COEX, Seoul, in collaboration with the Personal Information Protection Commission. Since the enforcement of the EU GDPR (EU General Data Protection Regulation) in 2018, personal data protection regulations have been strengthened worldwide, making it difficult for not only companies directly entering overseas markets but also those providing services from Korea to overseas to comply with relevant laws, prompting the organization of this event.

'Personal Data Regulation Response' KISA Holds Global Personal Data Protection Seminar

The seminar consists of three parts. Part 1, ‘Personal Data Protection Legislation and Policy Trends,’ will begin with a presentation on the policy of cross-border transfer of personal data following the amendment of the Personal Information Protection Act (Personal Information Protection Commission), followed by an overview of the main discussions at the AI and Data Privacy International Conference (Personal Information Protection Commission), and information on the overseas personal data protection regulation compliance support project (KISA).

Next, Part 2, ‘Major Trends and Response Measures for Overseas Personal Data Protection Regulations,’ will provide updates and response measures on key issues related to overseas personal data protection (biometric technology, children's personal data, dark patterns). Part 3, ‘Practical Cases of Personal Data Protection Response,’ will share and present experiences of domestic companies complying with overseas personal data protection (MS, Onapeople, SKT) and introduce cases and implications of overseas personal data protection legal consultations.

Kim Ju-young, Head of the Personal Data Protection Division at KISA, stated, “As there are over 160 countries worldwide with personal data protection legislation, the regulatory burden on domestic companies expanding overseas is increasing,” adding, “Through this seminar, we hope that personal data protection practitioners from various domestic industries will share their experiences in complying with overseas laws, providing an opportunity to respond more quickly and effectively to overseas regulations.”
