Gochang-gun Launches 'Know Your Vascular Numbers Campaign'

Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk, will carry out the ‘Know Your Vascular Numbers, Red Circle Campaign’ throughout September, focusing on places frequently visited by local residents such as traditional markets and the county office.

According to the county on the 7th, ‘Know Your Vascular Numbers’ means managing your own blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels to maintain healthy blood vessels, or a ‘Red Circle,’ to prevent cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.

Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, the leading cause of death in Korea, include heart diseases such as ischemic heart disease (myocardial infarction, angina), heart failure, cerebrovascular diseases such as stroke (ischemic, hemorrhagic), and pre-existing conditions like hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and arteriosclerosis. Recognizing and managing these conditions is very important.

Especially among people in their 30s and 40s, about one-third of those with hypertension or diabetes are unaware of their condition, and since there are often no outward symptoms, these diseases are sometimes called silent killers.

To maintain healthy blood vessels, it is important to remember and regularly check normal values: systolic blood pressure below 120 mmHg, diastolic blood pressure below 80 mmHg, fasting blood sugar below 100 mg/dl, and total cholesterol below 200 mg/dl.

The county operates the ‘Monday Know My Vascular Numbers’ program continuously every Monday from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the public health center, 12 health branches, and 24 health clinics.

A Gochang-gun Public Health Center official said, “In observance of Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease Prevention and Management Week, we will raise awareness and vigilance about these diseases among local residents through various campaigns and promotions.”
