Dobong-gu Conducts Intensive Inspection of Seasonal Food Manufacturers and Sellers Before Chuseok

Dobong-gu is stepping up hygiene management for seasonal foods ahead of the Chuseok holiday.

Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) announced that it will conduct inspections of seasonal food manufacturing and sales businesses as well as livestock product handling establishments in the area until September 22.

This inspection will target about 300 locations, including instant sales manufacturing and processing businesses and livestock product handling establishments, which see high consumption of ritual foods during the Chuseok holiday.

An official from the district stated, “Along with inspections, we plan to conduct sample tests on seasonal foods to ensure the safety of distributed food products.”

The main inspection items include ▲storage and sale of expired products ▲hygienic handling of food ▲compliance by business operators ▲adherence to the livestock traceability system ▲violations such as mislabeling Hanwoo beef.

For instant sales manufacturing and processing businesses located inside large supermarkets near residential areas, simplified contamination (ATP) tests will be conducted, allowing business operators to check the results on-site, and guidance on hygienic food handling will be provided. The simplified contamination (ATP) test involves swabbing surfaces such as knives and cutting boards, reacting the swab with a reagent, and using a measuring device on-site to quantify contamination levels, including bacteria, on the equipment.

Sample tests will also be conducted on seasonal foods and popular distributed foods and livestock products used as gifts during the holiday. If test results are deemed non-compliant, administrative actions such as immediate recall and disposal orders will be taken, and minor violations found during inspections will be corrected on-site. In cases of serious violations, strict penalties will be imposed according to relevant regulations.

In addition, promotion of food poisoning prevention guidelines and the newly introduced consumption period labeling system will be carried out simultaneously.

Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “We will do our best to strengthen hygiene management of seasonal foods for ritual and gift purposes, which see high consumption during the Chuseok holiday, to create an environment where residents can purchase with confidence,” and added, “We ask for the active cooperation of business operators in this inspection.”
