KenkoAir Unveils Ieum 5G Solution "Applied to UAM Foundry and Vertiport"

Kenkorea Aerospace announced on the 6th that it participated in the ‘SCM Fair 2023 (Distribution, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management Industry Exhibition)’ held at KINTEX in Ilsan, Gyeonggi-do until the 8th, together with Kenkorea Aviation and US-based Celona.

Kenkorea signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Celona earlier this year and continues to collaborate in the field of 5G private networks. In the production sector, Ieum 5G is being established as the basic communication infrastructure required for UAM manufacturing foundries, and in the operations system sector, preparations are underway to build a secure communication network for UAM vertiports (vertical takeoff and landing sites). Through this, it is expected to secure core solutions for future mobility production and operational communication infrastructure.

Kenkorea anticipates achieving tangible results through prototype production consignment of UAM aircraft from the R&D stage. The company explains that these prototype production achievements can establish a foundation for the future UAM foundry business.

Celona, the number one company in the US in the private 5G sector, supplies and manages 5G private network solutions primarily for global leading companies such as Tesla, Ford, BMW, and Walmart. It is expected to grow as the US standard for private 5G networks in the future.

Celona’s Ieum 5G technology offers 10 times wider coverage and 5 times faster low-latency performance compared to Wi-Fi in outdoor environments such as vertiports. It is recognized as a key infrastructure for the rapidly growing smart factory and logistics automation sectors.

Yoon Dong-han, Vice President of Kenkorea Aviation, explained, “5G private networks will become a communication infrastructure that holds a very significant portion in the aviation mobility production and operation sectors, where security and stability are the highest priorities.”

Ko Dae-geon, CEO of Celona Korea, stated, “As Celona’s Korean partner, Kenkorea will play a major role not only in aviation mobility but also in entering the domestic Ieum 5G market. Compared to the existing Ieum 5G networks applied domestically, it has more than 40% price competitiveness, so it is expected to be rapidly adopted in the domestic market.”
