Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon is taking a commemorative photo with participants at the '2023 Clean Air International Forum' held on the 5th.
Gyeonggi Province will implement an eco-friendly policy from the 7th of this month until the end of the year, offering a 50% toll discount for electric and hydrogen vehicles traveling on three toll roads within the province.
The toll roads eligible for the discount are ▲Seosuwon~Uiwang Expressway (Gyeonggi Southern Road) ▲Ilsan Bridge ▲Third Gyeongin Expressway, and the eligible vehicles are electric and hydrogen cars.
Vehicles equipped with a Hi-Pass device issued by Gyeonggi Province and using the unmanned payment method (Hi-Pass) to pay tolls can receive a 50% discount on toll fees.
In this case, for passenger cars, the toll on the Gyeonggi Southern Road will be reduced from 900 won to 450 won, Ilsan Bridge from 1,200 won to 600 won, and on the Third Gyeongin Expressway, the Gojan tollgate from 1,200 won to 600 won, Yeonseong tollgate from 700 won to 350 won, and Mulwang tollgate from 1,100 won to 550 won.
These three private toll roads are not subject to the government’s 50% toll discount for eco-friendly vehicles on expressways. Gyeonggi Province explained that this toll discount policy is significant as it applies to private toll roads.
To receive the toll discount, vehicles must be equipped with a Hi-Pass device dedicated to electric and hydrogen vehicles. If the device is not dedicated, it can be converted by entering the electric/hydrogen vehicle identification code into the existing device. This can be done by accessing the website directly or by visiting one of the 370 Korea Expressway Corporation sales offices nationwide with the device.
Detailed information on toll fees by vehicle type and discount eligibility for each toll road can be found in the announcement on the Gyeonggi Province website.
Jung Han-gyu, Director of the Advanced Mobility Industry Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "We expect that implementing this toll discount on toll roads will promote the expansion of eco-friendly vehicles in Gyeonggi Province and contribute to the transition to a carbon-neutral industrial ecosystem through greenhouse gas reduction."
Meanwhile, the number of eco-friendly vehicles (electric and hydrogen cars) registered in Gyeonggi Province increased from 6,390 in 2018 to 12,346 in 2019, 22,055 in 2020, 43,563 in 2021, and 83,974 in 2022. The expected number of eco-friendly vehicles this year is 160,390.
