Yeongdeok-gun Secures Additional 7.5 Billion KRW in National Funds for Flood Prevention Projects in Seongnae-ri and Beolyeong-ri, Yeonghae

Total Project Cost Increased from 7.2 Billion KRW to 20.9 Billion KRW, Flood Prevention Expected

Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, has opened a path to success for the urban flood prevention project being promoted in Seongnae-ri and Beolyeong-ri, Yeonghae-myeon, by securing an additional 7.5 billion KRW in national funding.

The areas of Seongnae-ri and Beolyeong-ri in Yeonghae-myeon are prone to flooding during heavy rains. In 2021, they were designated by the Ministry of Environment as a priority management area for sewer maintenance, and the 'Yeonghae Drainage Basin (Songcheon 2) Urban Flood Prevention Project' is being promoted with a national budget of 5 billion KRW and a total project cost of 7.2 billion KRW.

In addition, the Water Management Office of Yeongdeok-gun achieved a great success by securing an additional 7.5 billion KRW in national funding from the Ministry of Environment during the establishment of the sewer maintenance plan this year for the successful promotion of this project. As a result, the total project cost has more than doubled to 20.9 billion KRW, enabling fundamental measures to be taken against flood damage.

The project contents to be carried out through this additional national funding include maintenance of 500 rainwater inlets and improvement of 5.047 km of stormwater pipes, responding to flooding in the 1.46 km priority management area of Seongnae-ri and Beolyeong-ri, Yeonghae-myeon.

This project will proceed with basic and detailed design from this month until September next year, start construction in October next year, and be completed by September 2026.

Choi Dae-seok, Director of the Water Management Office, said, “We will do our best to ensure that the project to prevent flooding in the Yeonghae-myeon area is carried out promptly so that residents do not suffer any further damage.” He added, “We also ask residents to participate and provide their opinions through resident briefings for effective project promotion.”

County Governor Kim Gwang-yeol said, “To protect the property and lives of county residents from natural disasters, we will not only successfully promote the urban flood prevention project but also actively identify additional target areas and make recommendations to the government.”
