T map Launches 'All New TMAP'... "Reborn as an AI Mobility Platform"

Starting Today, the 'All New TMAP' Service Launches
All-in-One Airport Bus, Rental Car, Accommodation, and Restaurant Reservations

#Office worker Mr. A, while waiting for the subway to go to work, immediately opened the TMAP application upon hearing the announcement that the subway was significantly delayed. After searching for the optimal route to the office, it promptly provided information on bus routes and nearby taxi stands. Judging that walking to the stop would take too long, TMAP also recommended nearby personal mobility devices (PM) such as electric scooters.

#Mr. B, who travels domestically by car every weekend, has reduced the burden of travel preparation. Now, TMAP allows not only information on restaurants and attractions but also lodging near the destination and leisure activities, including booking. Previously, he spent a lot of time searching through portals and map apps one by one, but now he is completely free from such hassles.

From Public Transportation to Attractions and Restaurant Recommendations: 'One-Stop'

TMAP is reborn as a service encompassing the entire mobility spectrum, from public transportation to personal mobility devices (PM), 22 years after its debut as a navigation tool for drivers.

Lee Jong-ho, CEO of TMAP Mobility, held a press conference at SK Telecom headquarters on the 4th to announce the launch of 'All New TMAP (v10.0)'.

CEO Lee introduced, "All New TMAP is a new beginning of future mobility value that provides unprecedented new experiences through ‘integration’ and ‘AI-based personalization.’ It was made possible through TMAP’s unparalleled data competitiveness and artificial intelligence (AI) mobility technology."

The plan is to integrate the previously separately provided TMAP public transportation service and evolve into a personalized mobility platform optimized for each individual based on data and AI.

The core of the newly unveiled All New TMAP is 'integration' and 'personalization.' It integrates public transportation with driver-oriented services such as navigation, parking, designated driver, and electric vehicle charging. New features include airport bus inquiry and reservation, and shared bicycle services will be added in October. All users can now comprehensively search and compare cars and various public transportation modes wherever they travel.

Moreover, the scope expands beyond mobility to 'Mobility Life,' including place searches and restaurant and lodging reservations. In addition to the currently verified TMAP data-based restaurant and attraction information, lodging near the destination and leisure activity information and booking functions will be introduced within the year.

‘Car Life’ services such as vehicle purchase and maintenance will also be strengthened. Beyond the currently provided new cars, test drive cars, used cars, and vehicle accessories sales services, it will transform into a system that guides timely vehicle management and maintenance services based on driving history. Additionally, a more precise pricing service for used car sales using driving habits and vehicle maintenance history will launch within the year.

CEO Lee emphasized, "While the existing TMAP was mainly used to search for travel routes, going forward, users will be able to comprehensively check various transportation options to reach their destinations and conveniently use rental cars, lodging, and restaurant reservations."

Leap to an AI Mobility Platform

On this day, CEO Lee declared the evolution into an AI mobility platform based on the vast data accumulated over the past 22 years. The goal is to understand each user’s travel purpose and provide better value across all service areas.

TMAP’s navigation requests average 4.4 billion annually. This means every citizen receives navigation guidance via TMAP at least once every four days. Last year, the total driving distance guided by TMAP was 51.9 billion kilometers, enough to circle the distance between the Earth and the Sun 173 times.

The accumulated data is the most important element for realizing personalization and integrated mobility, and users’ personal data such as information, activities, and driving habits are strictly managed within a system built according to personal information protection principles.

TMAP trains AI with user information, activities, and driving habits data to classify user groups and match interests and situations to propose personalized services. In addition to the currently provided real-time supply-demand-based pricing model, customized place recommendations using large language models (LLM) and enhanced traffic condition predictions will be developed.

Jung Min-gyu, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of TMAP Mobility, said, "The mobility data TMAP possesses is a unique asset for integration and personalization. Using data and AI, we will provide user experiences optimized for individual situations across the entire mobility spectrum."

At the press conference, Magnus ?stberg, Chief Software Officer (CSO) of Mercedes-Benz, also emphasized TMAP’s data and technological competitiveness.

In a video message, he stated, "To enhance the digital experience inside vehicles, real-time traffic information provision and navigation based on highly accurate map data are essential. Combining Mercedes-Benz’s autonomous driving technology expertise with TMAP will improve infotainment experiences in the Korean market."

The two companies continue close collaboration to develop infotainment integrating Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX (Linux-based next-generation infotainment system) with TMAP.
