According to YTN on the 31st, the victim A visited her alma mater in Buyeo-gun, Chungnam last March, drank alcohol, and stayed alone at an unmanned motel about 700 meters away from her school. A, who fell asleep drunk, woke up feeling someone hugging her.
A said, "The lights were off, and a man hugged me, which startled me awake," adding, "I pretended to keep sleeping because I thought I might be killed if he realized I was awake," revealing the victimization.
After the man left the room, A immediately reported to the police. The arrested culprit was none other than the unmanned motel owner. Eventually, the owner was brought to trial and sentenced to six years in prison. The sentencing reason was that the crime was very serious, the victim suffered extreme shock and pain, and the owner consistently gave unacceptable excuses, necessitating severe punishment.
In particular, the unmanned motel is known to be frequently used by nearby university students. Regarding this, A emphasized that there are no restrictions on the owner operating the motel again after serving the sentence and stressed the need for sanctions.
She said, "I think such a person should be prevented from operating again. Many university students use the place, and I am worried they might experience what I went through," appealing to prevent the sexual offender from returning to the lodging business.
A similar incident occurred in 2021. At that time, an employee at a motel in Seoul opened a guest room door and sexually assaulted a guest. The employee had been convicted of a sexual crime and committed another offense during the probation period while working at the motel.
Regarding this, a lawyer specializing in sexual crimes emphasized to YTN, "There is a need to include lodging businesses in employment restrictions for sexual offenders," and stressed the necessity of strong measures such as effective laws.
