Gangbuk Beer Festival Held at Uicheon and Baeknyeon Market

Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) will hold the ‘2023 Gangbuk Baekmaek Festival,’ a festival that all generations can enjoy?from the MZ generation and students to middle-aged groups?on September 8-9 from 4 PM to 9 PM around Baeknyeon Market.

The ‘2023 Gangbuk Baekmaek Festival,’ held to revitalize traditional markets, is a festival where visitors can enjoy ‘Baek’ leisure food and over 50 kinds of craft ‘Maek’ju (beer) around Baeknyeon Market and the Uicheon area. The district prepared this festival to promote the area as a landmark by utilizing Uicheon’s outstanding natural resources, diverse food, and cultural programs, and to support the continuous growth of the traditional market even after the event.

EDM Performances Around Baeknyeon Market Create a Club Atmosphere Targeting MZ Youth Preferences

The festival venue spans about 600 meters from Baeknyeon Market to Ssanghan Bridge over Uicheon. The district divided the space into two zones to ensure that people of all ages can enjoy the Baekmaek Festival.

First, the area around Baeknyeon Market will be reborn with a club atmosphere for young generations such as the MZ generation. From 6 PM to 9 PM, famous EDM DJs including DJ Jayp, DJ Frog, and DJ Windy will perform at the ‘Baeknyeon Market Hip Stage.’ Craft beer and food will be sold in the Baeknyeon food zone and local food zone.

Eunmoru Park, located next to Baeknyeon Market, will be transformed into a pub decorated with standing tables and night lighting during the festival. The residential street from Baeknyeon Market to Ssanghan Bridge over Uicheon will be operated as a warm nighttime scenery zone using string lights.

Ssanghan Bridge over Uicheon Offers Family-Oriented Programs... Finale Performance Starts at 8 PM

While the area around Baeknyeon Market has a young and sophisticated atmosphere centered on the MZ generation, the Ssanghan Bridge area over Uicheon will be designed for family enjoyment. The district will operate experience booths where children can make beer soap, beer-shaped candles, and beer cup recycled flowerpots. From 8 PM, a one-hour finale performance will be held featuring singers that all generations can relate to, such as Turtles, Jeon Tae-ik Duet, Jo Moon-geun Band, and Band Zoo. The approximately 120-meter residential road near Ssanghan Bridge will be designated as a ‘Pojangmacha (street food stall) zone,’ where visitors can enjoy food while watching performances.

Over 100 Food Items Prepared with Consulting from a 5-Star Hotel Chef... Along with Over 50 Types of Craft Beer

About 50 food booths selling chicken, grilled dried pollack, French fries, assorted jeon (Korean pancakes), butter-grilled squid, stick tonkatsu, and more will be set up throughout the festival area. During the preparation period, the district and Baeknyeon Market Merchants Association prepared over 100 food items that combine affordable prices under 10,000 KRW and excellent taste through cooking practice and education by Chef Jeon Hyun-jin, a Japanese cuisine expert and professor at Korea Polytechnic University’s Department of Culinary Arts, who has experience at 5-star hotels.

Alongside the food booths, a beer sales area offering over 50 types of craft beer will be operated. Beer prices range from 4,000 to 8,000 KRW. About 10 companies nationwide are participating in this festival, including Suyu Craft Beer (Gangbuk-gu), Hwasu Brewery Gangbuk Branch (Gangbuk-gu), Sinchon Beer (Namyangju-si), Kkik Beer Company (Namyangju-si), Seven Broi (Hoengseong-gun), and Art Monster (Gangnam-gu).

Additionally, the district established safety management measures such as evacuation routes and deploying safety personnel throughout the venue to prevent mass crowd accidents.

Lee Soon-hee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, “We prepared this festival program so that everyone?from young generations to families?can enjoy diverse food, various themed spaces, performances, and experience programs. We will establish a public-private communication system to ensure that this festival, involving Gangbuk-gu, Baeknyeon Market Merchants Association, and young entrepreneurs, develops not as a one-time event but as a regional cultural collaboration model, revitalizing the local economy.”
