Kookmin University (President Lim Hong-jae) Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation announced that on the 28th at 11 a.m., it held the appointment ceremony for the Dongdaemun-gu Carbon Neutral Support Center Operating Committee in the small conference room of the Kookmin University Industry-Academic Cooperation Building.


At the ceremony, Seo Jun-kyung, head of Kookmin University's Industry-Academic Cooperation Team (LINC Project Team Leader), who presided over the event, reported on the establishment and designation process of the Carbon Neutral Support Center in accordance with Article 68 of the Framework Act on Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth for Responding to the Climate Crisis.


Following this, Min Byung-woong, director of the Dongdaemun-gu Carbon Neutral Support Center, presented appointment letters and, together with appointed operating committee members including Kim Se-jong, member of the Dongdaemun-gu Council; Lee Myung-sook, head of the Dongdaemun Climate Environment Action Group; Kookmin University Professor Kang Yoon-hee of the Department of Russian and Eurasian Studies (Director of the Climate Change Response Project Group); Professor Jang Jung-sik of the Department of Industrial Design (Director of the 3D Printing Design Innovation Center); Professor Shin Dong-hoon of the Department of Mechanical Engineering; and invited external expert Park Hyung-seop, writer and imagination creator, engaged in in-depth discussions on future cooperation plans for the implementation and practice of a carbon-neutral city in Dongdaemun-gu.


Min Byung-woong, director of Kookmin University's Carbon Neutral Green Growth Research Center, stated, “As the Dongdaemun-gu Carbon Neutral Support Center is the first to be established among Seoul's local governments, the responsibility is very significant. We will do our best to systematically and actively carry out the activities led by the district and civic groups so far, and furthermore, apply the university's research achievements to the local community to build a Dongdaemun-type carbon-neutral system where industry, academia, research, and government move organically together.”


Meanwhile, Dongdaemun-gu, led by District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung, held the ‘Dongdaemun-gu 2050 Carbon Neutrality Declaration Ceremony’ last February and declared this year as the inaugural year for the implementation and practice of a carbon-neutral city. Through this, it is taking the lead in responding to the climate crisis by enacting the Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth Basic Ordinance to transition to a carbon-neutral society and promote green growth.
